Beyond the Test is a 10-week behaviour-change system for driving instructors who refuse to teach for the test alone.
Driver Trainers that refuse to be average.
“If you answer yes to any of these?
“I want learners to change their behaviour without me having to convince them.”
“I want lessons that feel lighter, calmer, and actually enjoyable.”
“I want to be known as one of the best instructors in my area.”
“I want my Learner to stay safe for life, not just pass the test.”
I want to charge a premium and know I’ve earned it.”
“I want learners who are not defensive.”
Then Beyond The Test is the Programme for you
When 93% of road injuries and deaths are caused by driver (or rider) error, passing a test is not enough.
Behaviour change is the solution.
Beyond the Test is for instructors who care deeply about their learners and are frustrated that telling, warning, and explaining still won’t change what happens under pressure once they are driving alone.
You already know this: Your learners know the rules, and they understand the consequences.
But stress, rushing, distraction, and habit still take over during their Driving Test, but even more so after they pass.
1 in 5 New Drivers
is involved in a serious crash in first 6 months
‘Beyond the Test’ shows you how to change that, now and far into the future of your learners.
Built on the Evidence-Led Behaviour Change Method™, this system trains instructors to change what happens when no one is watching; under pressure, distraction, stress, and time constraints.
Instead of relying on telling, warning, or correcting, instructors learn how to run structured, in-car activities that give learners fact-based evidence about their own behaviour.
Learners don’t get judged.
They don’t get lectured.
They see the truth for themselves.
Through gamified driving experiments, learners gather evidence about:
- Why speeding feels helpful but isn’t
- How internal and external pressure hijacks decisions
- Why good plans fail under stress
- How attention, emotion, and habit interact behind the wheel
This creates calmer lessons, deeper insight, and behaviour change
that lasts long after the test is passed.
Beyond the Test equips instructors to:
- Prepare Learners to interrupt autopilot driving before it takes over
- Prepare them for pressure, not just procedures
- Rehearse safer responses before real-world stress hits
- Develop self-aware drivers who can regulate themselves
This is the work of instructors who take responsibility seriously
and want their reputation to reflect it.
Not average.
Not test-focused.
But trusted, respected, and worth a premium.
Because when behaviour causes the risk,
behaviour change is the solution.
Please note: This course is not affiliated with or endorsed by UKROEd or the NDORS scheme. It is an independent professional development course informed by my experience delivering official NDORS courses – but designed to support instructors through client-centred, behavioural coaching practices.
How does it work?
Week one is Module One. The following week is an Insight Session where we all come back to discuss the in-car activities and findings from practising the content of Module One with your Learners.
The process continues on week 3 with Module Two and the Insight Session the following week. Modules and Insight Sessions alternate for the entire 10-week Programme.
The 17 DVSA Standards Check & Part 3 Competencies
Managing risk, adapting teaching techniques, and self-reflection, are woven into the activities
and strategies you’ll use throughout this programme.
Building the kind of teaching habits that support your Standards Check and Part 3 performance over time, rather than cramming at the last minute!
Aligned with the GDE framework, Beyond the Test supports instructors to teach across all five levels – from practical driving to the deeper emotional and lifestyle
decisions that shape how people drive.
Course Objectives
Across five interactive modules and weekly Insight sessions, you’ll discover:
You’ll get a private Facebook Group community, Zoom support, practical tools, and loads of in-car activity ideas – all designed by me to build safer drivers from the inside out.

How will the course work?
The course will run for 10 weeks, with a classroom session every 2 weeks and an Insight Session on Zoom on the weeks in-between.
Week 1 will be a 2 hr Classroom Session via Zoom.
Week 2 will be a 2 hr Insight Session to discuss the tasks and activities provided the previous week, answer any questions and review progress.
You will have access to a range of resources on a private Facebook group for the duration of the course.
You can ask questions directly, too!
All weekly Modules and Insight Sessions will run at the same time and day as the initial session.
E.g. if you book for a session starting at 6pm on a Wednesday, all sessions in the block will run at 6pm on Wednesdays.
Course Modules
Module 1 – Myths in Motion
Unpacking the top mis-beliefs and exposing the uncomfortable truth. Includes in-car activities to challenge assumptions and encourage deeper insight.
Module 2 – Limits & Lapses
Things full licence holders often don’t know about speed limits — and what happens when autopilot takes over. Prepare them to recognise their own conscious incompetence. Includes practical in-car activities.
Module 3 – Triggers & Fire drills
Equip your learners to identify emotional and physiological triggers — and rehearse their responses before the pressure hits. Includes in-car “fire drill” coaching.
Module 4 – Forces & Flashpoints
Help learners recognise the external forces that drive speeding behaviour — from peer pressure to tailgating to time stress. Highly practical for real-life and test prep. Includes in-car tools.
Module 5 – Distractions & Directions
Teach learners how to take the wheel of their own attention — and build adaptable, transferable life skills. Includes focused in-car awareness training.
Don’t wait to get stuck in!
